How to get started with your new iPod
Getting started with your new iPod is amazingly quick and easy. Whether you have the iPod Shuffle, the Nano, or the Video iPod, Apple has gone out of its way to make using their mp3 players easy and intuitive. Below are some of the steps that you can take to get started with your new iPod.
First, read the manual. Learn everything that you can about your new iPod. Are you confused by some of the technical jargon? That’s all right; read it anyways. You may not understand all of it just yet, but having that information rolling around inside of your head will come in useful at some point.
Next, you will want to connect your iPod. Once you’ve got a feel for your new iPod’s features, it is time to connect it to your computer. Included with your new iPod is a cable that is designed just for that purpose. On one end you will see a rectangular plug about a half an inch wide. On the other end will be a thinner plug that is closer to an inch wide. If you have the iPod shuffle, this may be slightly different. The iPod shuffle features a cradle into which you sit your iPod. This cradle has a flat bottom and a single prong that sticks up from the bottom, and the half-inch plug on the other end.
Now it is time to install the iTunes software. After you plug in your iPod, insert the software disc that came with it and follow the on-screen prompts. This will install the Apple iTunes software that you need in order to download music to your iPod. Be patient here, as it may take quite a bit of time to install this software depending on the speed of your computer.
Downloading some music or podcasts is the next step. If you have an iTunes card, you can use it at the iTunes store. The iTunes store is located inside of the iTunes program on your computer: simply open “iTunes” on your computer and then click the “iTunes Store” button. Most of the music in the iTunes store costs money. You will have to pay around for most of your downloads. There are some free songs on the iTunes store, and there are many more free podcasts on the iTunes store. You may wish to spend a good bit of time looking around the iTunes store before you decide what exactly it is that you would like to download.
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help getting started with your new iPod. Whether it is a child, grandchild, neighbor or friend, it is likely that you have access to someone who knows how to use an iPod that can help you get started on the right foot.
