Ian Pennington asked:
An electronic organizer is like having your computer databanks at your fingertips. Being organized often needs a little help. Lists, reminders, telephone numbers of family, friends and business associates, even menu planning are all part of the volume of information tracking that can be a daily chore.
Information is stored in a reasonably accessible format and is sized to fit a pocket or purse. Some are computer-compatible so that information stored on your computer can be downloaded. With high technology, information can also be uploaded to your computer software if compatible.
Many new versions are installed on cell phones so that it becomes an added cell phone feature. In fact, with this added feature, the ability to directly access information from your phone becomes a simple procedure of the electronic organizer.
For travelers, the capability of foreign currency exchange and international time formats for any where in the world is a terrific advantage. Foreign language software can also be downloaded from regular computer software and common words and phrases are a touch of the screen away.
Professionals often install software that is business related. Executives find this a great way to take their “work” with them. Hence, many organizers are referred to as “personal assistants”. Although, at present, there are others, like the “Blackberry”. The inter-relationship between desktop and laptop and these devices is the most worthwhile reason to purchase an electronic organizer.
Before shopping, however, there are several things to keep in mind:
-Memory – An organizer used specifically for names, address and phone numbers requires a fair amount of memory. If any type of graphics are downloaded or music streaming will be a necessity, look for one with at least 3 gigabytes.
-Size – The size of your handy assistant matters if you want fast access in your pocket or purse
-Compatibility – This is a big issue for those who upload or download from their regular computers. Not only should software be compatible but also the operating system.
Example: If your computer is a Mac system, and your electronic organizer is only compatible with Microsoft’s Operating system, you’ll only achieve minimal possible use. This isn’t an issue where the electronic organizer’s only use is for storing names, addresses and phone numbers and the organizer’s format is preset.
Once purchased, it helps as a reminder of birthdays, anniversaries, meetings and other events. Some even keep a terrific tracking of past gifts purchased and menus served for holidays. Tracking is a great tool when you consider the amount of “paper” memos, lists and notes it’s possible to amass for a single 6-month period of time. And, unlike, address books, adding or deleting information is not a problem. Nor, is there a situation where you run out of “room”. If you fill up one of the traditional-style address books, you then need to carry two. Not with these personal assistants. There are many electronic organizers on the market to choose from. Make sure you know what your needs are before you buy.
