How do you know when iPod Apps are bad?

I recently jailbroke iPod and found no such thing as bad Apps damage your iPod. How do I know if the Apps I download this serious?

there’s no way of telling

if you’re downloading from the App Store then any app is good because Apple thoroughly tests them and rejects any app that is dangerous to the iPod or invades your privacy

if you’re getting your apps from Installous or Icy or Cydia or whatever the jailbreak crowd uses these days you just have to hope it doesn’t mess anything up
