Used Jailbreak Software on Your Iphone? Here Are the Top Cydia Apps.

Published on December 23rd, 2010 in iPhone

My jailbroken iPhone has been serving me well for 2 months now and I’m loving it. The open source, community based, freedom loving model suits my personality very well, thank you. The one thing that sucks is the lack of a tech support number to call if things go awry, but that’s another topic.

I’ve blogged about the best Cydia applications I found in the past , but I feel it’s time to update that list and share it with you all. “Why?” might you ask. Simple. My needs and interests change regularly. The software source being Cydia, applications can be harder to find than with the centralized Apple App Store.

New apps are added to Cydia on a daily basis, and new repositories are created daily, so new stuff is easy to find – good stuff is harder. There are a few tools on the interwebs to help you by attempting to centralize the Cydia apps information (appRater, ModMyi, hackint0sh, iPhoneFreakz, BigBoss, iSpazio), but it’s still more challenging than your search-and-tap routine.

So, what you’ll find below are my current 10 favorite apps from Cydia that can be used on any jailbroken iPhone.

1 – WinterBoard: For massive customization. Natively, the iPhone allows a little bit of customization. But with WinterBoard, you can pretty much mod your iOS to your heart’s content. Change the keyboard, sounds, icons, buttons – whatever you want is up for grabs.

2)SBSSettings: More options for configurations. Except unlike #1, this adds the options right to the native configuration menu. Lets you hide icons, use Facetime over 3G, and more. Tons of plugins just like for Winterboard. I use it to hide the iTunes and Youtube icons.

StatusNotifier: Adds icons in the top status bar for SMS, emails and calls, near the battery display.

4 – FontSwap: I think that the default fonts that come with the iPhone IOS are terrible. FontSwap has hundreds of additional fonts that you can configure. I like the Agent Orange font myself. Currently 1543 fonts available with more being added on a daily basis.

iTypeFastR: iTypeFastR is an app for iPhone, that adds a special keyboard (available as landscape too!). The keyboard allows you to type faster and with less typos, because on average the keys are much larger. This keyboard makes better use of the available room on the screen. Often used letters are bigger then less used ones. On average, you therefore hit bigger buttons.
