Most people are now split between the usefulness of two different computing devices. These would be the iPod Touch versus the new Apple iPad. Both of these are fairly similar in functionality and have their own advantages. Which one might be better for day to day use?

One very important thing to consider with portable devices is battery life. The iPod Touch has quite a bit more battery life than the iPad however some of the computing tasks you can accomplish with the iPad may make battery life insignificant. To some this is an important thing although if the iPad is used right, it can last all day long if need be. You can also pick up an aftermarket car charger that will allow you to beef up your iPad’s charge while on the go making the aspect of battery life a non-issue.

Portability is a huge factor in day to day use. If the device isn’t too portable, it’s harder to use. With the iPod Touch, one can slip that into a pocket and pull it out when needed. On the iPad, while still portable, this is a bit harder to actually do. As well, the iPad is a little heavier making long holding sessions uncomfortable.

One positive advantage that goes to the iPad is that you can get 3g service with it. This means that you can stay connected to the internet with this device. While this is a good thing, you also have to pay extra for the hardware and a monthly bill. These devices do function much better with internet access.

For movies the iPad does have a bigger screen which is nice. Both have such high pixel quality that watching a movie looks great. Apple’s screen technology also allows you to view the screen from different angles without losing the image, so no adjusting or fiddling with the screen to make a picture clear. When doing something like laying down, the Touch is a bit easier to manage though the iPad can be controlled with a tap of a finger like the iPod.

The iPad will have all the software the Touch does plus some more. In terms of available software, the Touch can’t quite do as much.

The big advantage of the Touch is that it’s cheaper. You can also get two of those for the same price of one iPad.

You have to think about how you will use each device and what type of device that you need in your life. For you, one device might fit you better than the other.
